euromicron subsidiary telent supports Rohde & Schwarz in maintaining security scanners nationwide

Frankfurt/Main / Backnang, May 07, 2018 – In 2016, the Procurement Office of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior concluded a framework agreement with the technology group Rohde & Schwarz relating to 300 R&S QPS200 security scanners. They are used for screening people, in particular in the security-restricted areas of German airports. Rohde & Schwarz is supported in maintaining and repairing the systems by telent, a euromicron Group company.

The security scanners from Rohde & Schwarz are based on millimeter-wave technology and automatically detect whether screened persons are carrying potentially dangerous objects – whether rigid, flexible, fluid, metallic or non-metallic. If the scanner reports an alarm, the location of the object is simply marked on an avatar, a symbolic graphic of the human body. The neutral graphical display preserves privacy during checks.

Rohde & Schwarz has now commissioned telent with support services for maintaining and repairing the high-tech security scanners. A key factor why telent won the contract was its experience in system technology for critical infrastructures. The company operates its own Service Competence Center and its specialist employees are available nationwide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They carry out minor repairs at very short notice, ensuring that delays and disadvantages for passengers are largely avoided. They lay the groundwork for more extensive work for the Rohde & Schwarz team.

“It’s vital to avoid disruptions to the security systems so as to ensure smooth processes for passengers. Thanks to our service know-how and preventive maintenance, we guarantee very short response times if a device should fail,” states Markus Mayr, Head of Sales at telent. The security scanners are already being rolled out and Rohde & Schwarz and telent have commenced their cooperation at initial German airports. All large German airports are to be equipped with the security scanners in the future.

“telent has many years of experience in setting up, rectifying problems in and maintaining critical infrastructures – and that was a key factor why we chose it as a partner. As early as the concept design phase for the service agreement, we jointly formulated a coordinated service process for the security scanner. In our first call-outs, we were thus able to demonstrate to the customer that we provide a professional, coordinated service that complies with its high security requirements,” states Christian Evers, Vice President Microwave Imaging at Rohde & Schwarz.
